Mary Balogh (rhymes with Kellogg) grew up in Swansea, Wales, before moving to Canada to teach. Her love for Regency romances bloomed when she discovered the books of Georgette Heyer while she was on maternity leave, and soon, she began writing a novel of her own at the kitchen table—in longhand, no less—after the day’s work was done. That book, A Masked Deception, was published in 1985 and won the Romantic Times Award for best new Regency writer that year. She has since written more than 70 novels and almost 30 novellas—including the bestselling Slightly sextet and Simply quartet—and is the recipient of multiple awards.
