Being a fairie princess doesn’t mean your life is a fairie tale. In reality, horrible things happen. For months, Meredith NicEssus had been trying to get pregnant before her vicious cousin, Cel, sired a child and won the Unseelie throne. That—and staying alive—was all she thought about. Now that she’s pregnant with twins, Merry lies in a human hospital being closely watched by her powerful harem of bodyguards—her Darkness, Doyle; Sholto, King of the shadowy Sluagh; and fairie warriors Rhys and Galen—as she recovers from the trauma wrought upon her by her evil uncle Taranis, Seelie King of Light and Illusion.
But even her loyal harem cannot protect her against unforeseen danger. When Merry’s beloved grandmother, Hettie, launches a violent attack against the guards, Merry realizes a jealous rival is working to destroy her—and calls upon the Wild Hunt to wreak terrible revenge.
With magical icons from the past and the Goddess herself appearing to help her, you would think the sidhe would rally around her. But fey politics is a complex matter, and Merry—Princess of Flesh and Blood—finds herself the reluctant queen of yet another throne. And the insane son of Queen Andais isn’t done with her yet….

Excellent story line. If you have read any of the other books in this series, this is a must read. Having read this and the last published book in this series, I can only say that I hope there are more. Seems like Merry has several more stories to tell.
Great book and great series, hope there are more.

I read this book in one because I couldn't put it down! I read all of her books like that. Keep writing great books Laurell. Both series are terrific and I highly recommend them.

MAGIC . . . nothing but pure magic. That is the only word to use for Laurell K. Hamilton’s Swallowing Darkness. I have read every book in the Merry Gentry series and always look forward to the next one. The one thing this book has plenty of is magic, lots and lots of magic. One thing it has less of is SEX, maybe because she is pregnant with twins (each with three fathers, wow) and maybe because she is so busy trying to stay alive. There is more action than usual but to me the greatest was the exceptional magic. I love magic, can’t get enough. There seemed to be more storyline than usual, usually it’s just non-stop sex which kinda gets aggravating at times. I like the series because of the magic, oh, did I mention that before???? I would recommend this to anyone who likes LKH. Keep up the good work.
