Jude Deveraux dazzles again with the next installment in her popular Edilean series. The Scent of Jasmine takes us to 1799, where a pampered young beauty leaves behind her patrician upbringing to go on the run with a convicted killer….
That it wasn’t supposed to turn out this way is all Cay Harcourt can think about after her godfather’s plan to help Scotsman Alexander McDowell break out of prison goes terribly awry. Now she too is on the run, having aided his escape, and the crazy thing is, she’s never felt so free!
Alex, the son of an old friend of Cay’s father, insists he was framed for murder—and she believes him. She also suspects that beneath his unkempt appearance is a man she wouldn’t mind adding to her long list of suitors. As for Alex, he’s well aware that such close proximity to Cay would test the limits of a saint, something he decidedly is not. And when the pair meets up with the boat waiting to hide Alex deep inside the Everglades, he sends her away, never imagining she would dare to refuse. Now, amid the sultry atmosphere of uncharted land and unspeakable danger, will the unlikely couple stop sparring long enough to discover the promise and passion of love?

Have read some Jude Deveraux before and am getting hooked on her books. Enjoyed this book very much as it makes you want to read more of her writing. Reminds me of other authors that tie books together through location and time. I like that.

I loved all her books, some more than the others, but this one was not too good. The story was ok, but much too long and a little boring in a lot of spots. I hope her next one was like her earlier ones. they were good and some were great.
