This was my first and last Anne Rice book. I bought it thinking an erotic read would be a change, but I am not into kidnapping, rape, sodomy, perversion, sadistic, and masochistic behavior toward another human being let along to children. Too sick to finish, and a huge waste of my hard earned money. It was my first and last book like this one, and definitely my one and only Anne Rice book.

First let me say Iove most of Anne Rice's body of work.. but this one just fell far short of what I have experienced with her other novels. Her other stories evoke vivid images in my mind , almost like I'm watching a movie while I'm reading... but this book IMO could barely be called erotic literature. It read more like a masochistic Harlequin romance novel. I am not a prude or puritanical in my believes or lifestyle and all I can say is this was just a plain boring read. The premise I found truly unique and captivating but the book to me never capitalized on that. It de-evolved into just a mindless and not very illuminating or inspiring tirade of spanking and humiliation. The character development just wasn't there for me to invest my interest... despite brief moments of brilliance, overall the characters felt colorless and one dimensional. I had high hopes and I will finish the series since I bought the set but honestly I think it is my least favorite of her works.

I don't consider myself a prude but this book was more sadistic than sexual. I usually finish all books that I start except for this one. This was probably the only book I was able to put down without finishing and drop into the waste basket. I guess there is a 1st time for everything.

I personally hate to not finish a book once I start it, but this one pushed me to the limits. I just could not get into the story and it just was just plain strange.

OKAY, I'LL BE THE FIRST TO SAY THAT I LIKE EROTIC LITERATURE. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED SHAYLA BLACK AND NOW CAN'T SEEM TO GET ENOUGH. I READ ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING THAT SOMEONE WILL PUT IN MY HANDS SO IT IS REALLY HARD FOR ME TO SAY A BOOK ISN'T GOOD. THIS ONE WAS NOT AT ALL WHAT I WAS EXPECTING. IF YOU ARE READING FOR THE EROTIC SIDE , I DON'T THINK THIS WILL DO IT FOR YOU. IT'S JUST NOT THAT INTERESTING. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE PRINCE IS MORE INTO BEATING HER AND MAKING HER SUBMISSIVE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. IF THAT'S YOUR THING, THEN YOU MIGHT ENJOY IT MORE THAN I. REGARDLESS IT PASSED THE TIME FOR A LITTLE WHILE BUT I WOULDN'T SPEND THIS MUCH MONEY FOR THE OTHERS IN THE SERIES.
