Short-Straw Bride, by Karen Witemeyer, author of the award-winning A Tailor-Made Bride, is sure to captivate lovers of historical romance.
It’s 1880s Texas, and no one steps on Archer land if they value their life. But when Meredith Hayes overhears a plot to burn the Archer brothers off their ranch, a long-standing debt compels her to take the risk. Years of constant vigilance hardens a man, yet when Travis Archer meets a female trespasser with the same blue eyes as the young girl he once aided, he can't send her away. And when an act of sacrifice leaves her injured and her reputation in shreds, gratitude and guilt prompt him to rescue her again.
But can love ever bloom—or will Travis always see Meredith as a short-straw bride?

Sweet, enjoyable story, and I loved seeing the spiritual growth in both Travis and Meredith. Nothing more fun that a hero who isn’t afraid to share his life with a strong heroine, even if her strength does drive him batty at times. Travis is tough on the outside, and loyal to his very core, but soft on the inside, particularly when it comes to a pair of pretty blue eyes. Meri knows he’s not as tough as he wants people to think, that there’s a decent, gentle, caring man beneath that tough exterior.
And I must say. I agree with Travis. Women’s clothes in that era had too many buttons! LOL
