For mind-reading barmaid Sookie Stackhouse, the day-to-day activities of the supernatural communities in and around Bon Temps, Louisiana, are of vital interest. She is blood-bound to the leader of the vampires, a friend to the local werewolf pack, works for a man who is a pure shapeshifter and has a younger brother who’s a werepanther. And she herself, though only some supes can detect it, has fairy blood in her veins.
Mainstream society has known about the Undead for years, but most humans aren’t up on the shifting power dynamics in the paranormal community. To them, the Vamps are mysterious seductive creatures—undead and nonhuman, but a recognized part of society nonetheless. They don’t even know about the Weres. But that’s about to change.
The Were community has finally decided to follow the lead of the Vamps and reveal their existence to the ordinary world. It all appears to be going smoothly, but tensions rise when the body of a werepanther is found in the parking lot where Sookie works. The human cops think that a human did it. The panthers think it was her Were brother, Jason. Sookie sets out to clear his name—a task made complicated when she finds out that her life, too, is in danger….

This is the best book yet in the Sookie Stackhouse Series. The books are much better than the HBO series, but I like that as well. Can't wait to see what Ms. Harris has up her sleeve next!

Sookie has been through a lot. An awful lot. And the stuff just keeps hitting the fan! She's lost a lot of the innocence & sweetness that made her fun in the first few books & has admitted to herself that yes, she's getting hard. I guess she's had to. It seems as if disaster after disaster just keeps piling on - doesn't anything ever go right for her? Does she ever get to have a good time? All she does anymore is worry, work, & try not to get killed. And the love triangle with Bill & Eric is rough; I thought with Quinn on the scene that she might be allowed to be lucky in love, but so far it's not to be. I love these books & Ms. Harris is a terrific author, but I think it's time for more positive things to happen to Sookie. She's battered & beleaguered at every turn; give us something pleasant, something fun for a change! Dead and Gone leaves us hanging - so I'll be waiting to see what happens to the poor girl next!? I finished this book in 2.5 hours, I sure hope I don't have to wait over a year for the next book!

This is an absolutely wonderful read. Sookie has grown before our eyes and finally landed with the right vampire. I just devour Charlaine Harris' books. Lots of twisty plots and adventure and just enough sex without too much detail. I volunteer to come clean Ms. Harris' house for her so she can write more and faster. P.S. I'm a good cook, too.

Wow, was this a let down. After waiting so long and paying so much, I feel cheated. I really like this series, and the book was okay, but I feel like I'm getting strung along. You get little tid bits about a characters past and little insights into what they are feeling and then its 'well thats enough of that read the next book'. This book could have been sooo much more. I didn't get my moneys worth, but Ms. Harris is getting hers, she should pass it on to the people who read her books. We all know Ms. Harris is talented, and the book was a bunch of nothing really and I'm just not happy at all. I wouldn't tell people not to buy it, but its not worth the hard copy fee at all. Wait for the paperback if you can.

I have read all of her books also... and I am/was a big big fan, until this one. Could not wait for the book to come out... Was madder than **** when the stores did not put the book out on it's release date. I finally got the book 2 days after the release date, was finish reading it a day and a half after I got it... not because it was such a page turner, but because I was bored. I had to make myself finish the book. I am severely disappointed in this book. I am not going to spoil it for any of you who haven't read it yet, but I am really not anticipating the next book in this series. In comparison to the other eight books, which I was loosing sleep over, couldn't put down to do chores around the house... Mrs. Harris, this book was a real let down.
