The Lone Texan

Even among the Texas Rangers, Drummond Roak is a legend. Wild as a mustang, cold as ice, he’s as quick and deadly with his gun as anyone they’ve ever seen, and when he’s on a mission, he always gets the job done. He’s the best of the best, but when it comes to Sage McMurray, he’s as clumsy as a newborn calf. Three years in Boston studying to be a doctor have left Sage homesick for her home at Whispering Mountain, but trouble strikes almost as soon as she steps off the boat at Galveston. Caught in the middle of a bank robbery, she’s kidnapped by outlaws who decide to auction her off to the highest bidder! Helpless, she watches her price go up—and the crowd grows more raucous—until a familiar figure from her past steps from the shadows and places the winning bid. So begins The Lone Texan, the highly anticipated new Whispering Mountain romance by Jodi Thomas. Roak has loved Sage all her life, but reuniting with her in an outlaw stronghold is not how he envisioned the start of their courtship. Now, surrounded by murderers—and with a very angry Sage on his hands—can he find a way to survive long enough to convince the love of his life that he’s not the heartless killer she believes him to be?

Great Continuation of the Whispering Mountain Series
November 09, 2009

Enjoyable book relaying Drum and Sage's story from the ongoing McMurray/Whispering Mountain series. It dragged a bit for me - too long really - but I still enjoyed it. I, too, like the sub-romance of Sage's nurse as much - if not more - than Drum & Sage's story. I wouldn't mind a book about them, too!

Whispering Mtn. Series Conclusion
November 07, 2009

I really enjoy reading a Jodi Thomas book because they are filled with adventure, romance and endearing characters. We finally get to Sage & Drum's story and catch up on her older brothers and their families. I especially liked the secondary love story of Sage's nurse and her rescuer. The earlier titles in this series are 1. Texas Rain (Travis), 2. Texas Princess (Tobin), 3. Tall Dark & Texan (Teagan).

Roak and Sage finally together...Hooray!
October 23, 2009

As always, Thomas has managed to put together an excellent storyline filled with romance...hot romance, I might add, drama, and action with the perfect mix of humor. The first three books of the Whispering Mountain series are just as good as this one. You will fall in love with the McMurray family and enjoy reading where their paths have lead them and all the amazing people they have around, helping them. I am sad to see this series come to an end.

Finally, Sage's story!
September 30, 2009

Fans of the Whispering Mountain series will not be disappointed. If you're new to the tale of the McMurray family, you won't be disappointed either if you start with this one. The dirty kid called Drum grows up into a hunky Ranger (sigh) but Sage is not easily convinced he's the one for her. It takes some kissing, plus nonstop action when Sage is kidnapped, and as is trademark Thomas, a cast of endearing characters. Laugh outloud moments and sealed with true love. To the very end, this is time well spent!
