Carla Neggers’ The Whisper begins on a remote island where archaeologist Sophie Malone is living a nightmare. Gold artifacts, part of a Celtic treasure trove she’s unearthed, have disappeared after a failed attempt on her life. Now, the whispers Sophie heard while hiding in a cave’s desolate darkness still echo a year later in Boston, where she’s come seeking answers.
On the trail of a crazed bomber, Detective Scoop Wisdom is sidetracked when Sophie leads him to a body that appears to have been used in a gruesome sacrifice. If Sophie is telling the truth—and Scoop wants to believe her for many reasons, most of them personal—someone is using ancient rituals to commit modern-day murder. And from what he can see, there’s more to come….

This was a continuous of her former novels. If you haven't read her former novels, this will have lost and confused with all the former characters coming together. All for continuous of former novels but where is the line drawn. This was not well written.

Rarely do I have to force myself to finish a book. This was one of them. Too many characters and not enough story. Nothing was well developed. This is the first time I have read this author and it will probably be the last.

This book was okay if nothing else available. Seem to written according to a formula, maybe something needed for a deadline. I'll put on shelf and not read again.

Unfortunately, this book was a little disappointing. The story line seemed disjointed and I had some difficulty in keeping focused on the plot. There were so many characters that didn't seem central to the story, it became confusing. Maybe that explains why there were so many references to past books and their characters, which became a little annoying. All in all, it is a quick summer read and should be viewed as such. I usually enjoy her books so much more and will look forward to the next one.
